Conference Notes: Perfect Patience

On Saturday morning, Priscilla Shirer spoke for the fourth session of the Women’s Conference.

Me and mom

Here are my notes:

Priscilla started out with a story. Her baby brother had come over to her house one day and as he was raiding her fridge, he told her a story about his two year old daughter. He told about how she would run over to the refrigerator, point at it and say “food.” So he would pick her up and take her over to her booster seat and go back to the fridge to get the food. But when she saw that she was farther away from the “big box with the food” she would throw a tantrum, wriggle out of her booster seat and run back to the refrigerator and point at it and say “food.” He described to Priscilla how they went through this over and over again. {The loving daddy that he was, he was putting his daughter in the right place to receive what she had asked for and being young and unlearned she didn’t recognize it} Priscilla chuckled at the story and marveled at her brother’s patience. Then God told her that the little girl is her and that God is patient with her.

Sometimes because we are human we think that because our patience has a limit that God’s patience must have a limit, too. {NOT SO!}

We can’t wear God out!

The flip side of God’s power is not what He does but what He doesn’t do ~ MERCY!

The devil tries to get us to think we can out-sin the grace of God and then we’ll miss what god has for us.

A revelation of God’s patience can set you free.

Patience is a characteristic in us that can be developed in our lives.

We think that because we have issues with patience that God does.

God’s patience is the most important link in the chain of His character.

God’s patience is sufficient for you.

1 Timothy 1:16 NAS “Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.”

Notice that Paul describes God as having “perfect patience”

Paul offers himself as a demonstration of the patience of God.

Paul starts out the verse saying “For this reason” which is the equivalent of therefore and when you see therefore you should find out what it is there for…

So, what are the reasons??

#1) He saved me! {justification}

Verse 15 “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.”

He saved us and that is a miracle! {Our physical birth is a miracle > how much more is our spiritual birth a miracle! This is God’s patience}

#2) He changed me! {sanctification}

Verse 13 “even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;”

Sanctification is the process in which the Holy Spirit chips away at everything that doesn’t look like Jesus. #God’sPatience!

If we try to change ourselves, we will be tired. But, the Holy Spirit is doing the work!

Do you know how popcorn pops? There is a little bit of water inside the kernel of popcorn and when it heats up it expands and explodes out of the shell. *Popcorn looks different when it is popped because what was on the inside was heated up = the Holy Spirit works from the inside out.

#3) He used me for His glory!

Verse 12 “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service,”

The enemy wants us to discount the places God has put us (relationships, smaller spheres of influence) God doesn’t put us in an insignificant place.

Don’t downgrade the place that God has put you!

People think because of where God has put them, they have been cheated. But you have not been cheated! You have been chosen!

#4) He strengthened me!

Verse 12 “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he considered me faithful, putting me into service,”

He doesn’t call me to do anything that He doesn’t give me the grace (strength & anointing & power) to handle.

{This is the treasure we already have!!!}
