Friday Update: 8/23/13

Things moved quickly Friday night. Things always move along a little more quickly and smoothly when there are plenty of people to help J In no time at all we were all set up and ready for Jerred to pray and bless the food.

It is wonderful to know that it doesn’t matter that we are outdoors. God will show up and be in the midst of us when we gather in His name. That is exactly what happens each and every Friday night! This Friday wasn’t any different. There was a tangible anointing during the praise and worship. As Jerred began to speak many people stayed and listened intently. As Jerred preaches, he uses illustrations to demonstrate concepts to the people. These illustrations are directed by the Holy Spirit and they always produce the “light bulb” effect in the people watching them and lots of times in the people acting them out as well.

Jerred closed his message and the clothing distribution began at the back of the food truck. People were given t-shirts, pants, underwear, socks, and backpacks. If you just go to your sock drawer every day for a pair of socks then you don’t know the true value of a clean pair of socks. Giving people a simple pair of socks can say “Jesus loves you” louder than you or I could yell at the top of our lungs. It speaks to their hearts. All of the clothing items are also a point of contact with the people we serve. Everything on the food truck is prayed over down to the last little cracker, cookie and sock. People who might not say “yes” to an outright offer of prayer will accept a bowl of food and a pair of socks.

As the sun began to go down and the people began to disperse, we served our last bowl of food. It was time for us to pack up and go home…until next week!
